RUGGEDTECH
"The wearable scene has huge potential and clothing may in the future account for many of the functions that currently operates through mobile phones. However, wearables today are mostly focused on biometric data, which measure physical performance. We want this initiative to bring together fashion designers with digital developers so that they can create innovations with a higher fashion degree and embrace more of everyday features that do not exist on the market today"

What is the purpose of the Fashion Hackathon?
The Fashion Hackathon was an event organised by the Swedish Fashion Council that happened on the 16th and 17th of April, 2016, at the Things building at KTH, Stockholm. The purpose was to create a new hybrid industry between fashion and technology, and solve a social problem or everyday problem by creating the next generation of wearables. To create concrete prototypes that can continue on to the market.
What is the RuggedTech?
In order to present an innovative product, that would transcend the normal functions of footwear, Reschia has transformed their most successful design, the Rugged Boot, to embody new technological features. Our main goal was to adapt the sensors and smart materials and develop a mobile application, together with Bontouch, to improve the usability of the boots.
How does Reschia's RuggedTech work?
The components we have focussed on were: comfort, connectivity and easiness of access to information and functions. The Carbon Fiber Fabric (Cabric) lining can provide the perfect temperature for the inside of the shoes. The Cabric fabric will be positioned in both extremities of the shoes and will also act as a anti-bacterial textile for the insole.
Additionally, the boots include a sensor called Automat that works as a shortcut button to a set of commands in connection to the user's phone. For example, it attends to the safety of the wearer by presenting a S.O.S. function that, when activated, sends the user's location to contacts. The same sensors, in connection to vibrating devices and the phone's GPS, would have a guidance purpose that could aid visually impaired reach a specific destination. |
We went beyond the simple usability of the boots and designed also a community around the Rugged Tech, which would weave a network of people and allow them to interact through the app. Outside the virtual community, the boots can also offer a real change in our society. Through the sensors of the Automat, the wearer can contribute for the collection of data for further research, such as changes in temperature across town.
Finally, working towards a wireless future, the boots offer the convenience of wireless charging through magnetic induction. With that, Reschia's RuggedTech hopes to offer the clients cutting-edge services and technologies that would create a unique experience to the wearer and present possible improvements in the areas of comfort, connectivity and accessibility.
